MSU Safe Place Director Rosen announces retirement

It is with mixed emotions that I share the news of Holly Rosen’s retirement as the Director of Safe Place, effective February 26, 2024.  

For 30 years, Holly has tirelessly served Safe Place clients, providing shelter, advocacy, and support for victims of relationship violence and stalking. Her journey began when she was chosen by Joanne McPherson, the First Lady of MSU from 1993 to 2004, to lead the first domestic violence shelter and support initiative on a college campus in the United States. Since then, Safe Place has grown into a transformative program on our campus, offering emergency shelter and supportive services to approximately 70-100 adults and children each year. 

Holly was also appointed to the Relationship Violence and Sexual Misconduct (RVSM) Expert Advisory Workgroup in 2018, where her contributions helped restructure campuswide offices, policies, and procedures addressing RVSM issues, as well as implementing the University’s first RVSM Strategic Plan. 

Throughout her time at MSU, Holly has actively participated in numerous community response initiatives, including the Violence Free Communities and the Capital Area Domestic and Sexual Violence Coordinating Council. Her passion extended to serving on the board of the Batterer Intervention Services Coalition of Michigan, where she worked to enhance survivor advocacy and increase education for court personnel through expert testimony.
